I'm interested in buying a new electric Bass for my son. I'm trying to get him interested in music. Which one of these electric Bass's of the top end would be a good starter Bass? Thanks, for any advice y'all can give. Gene Bellamy

Trying to get your offspring into music is always a bit of a gamble so the best idea is not to shell out a shed load of cash. Squier do starter packs that contain everything required to start rocking, the guitars are ok but suffer a bit in the finishing department, such as fret finishing and set up. Squiers Classic Vibe series are really great quality, and it's easier to learn on an instrument that operates well. Epiphones Les Paul Special bass is also a good entry level bass that won't break the bank, or there's the Thunderbirds which, although further up the price bracket, are almost identical their Gibson cousins which go for four times the money. Just remember to try before you buy

Ditto, better to buy a cheaper one probably second hand then it would be cheaper still. Squire and Epiphone are pretty good for the money. I have a rough and ready EB 3 but the pups, pots electrics and neck are in fine fettle and I only paid £65. Have a good look round and like Marko said TRY BEFORE YOU BUY

I would suggest taking your son to a gig first before buying an instrument to see if that sparks an interest in music.

My son loves music but has no interest in playing an instrument

Or buy him something you'll want in case he decides he doesn't want to play.

And if he decides he doesn't want to play with MotorMog's suggestion take him to boxing matches, tractor pulling events or anything where the testosterone level is off the scale

If you go for mogs suggestion get him some boxing gloves to protect his hands just in case he changes his mind. Here's a few cheap ones that I've bought.

The EB3 was £65 and the other two were £200 each
Thanks, to ALL of you for these great suggestions. I'll take them under advisement. LOL Gene Bellamy
