Finger style most of the time. whoever argued about a pick being louder isn't really true if you ask me.
i do like playing with a pick if i'm doing some more grungy/metal kinda stuff cuz i think it compliments the sound.
i'm not much of a slapper but i do think it sounds cool and really works well in a funk context,
and if it was practical all i would do is tap. (tapping is by far my favorite!)
I think if you're trying to be an all around good bass player it's important to understand all aprroaches.
but if you're just trying to do your own thing then do whatever works for ya.
I'd say a pick is louder. That's just my experience though

I love the tone you get with a pick but like I said, me n picks don't get on
Using a pick when it calls for it, say Judas Priest, but prefer finger style.

well a pick definitely adds alot of bite to your playing,
but if yoiur fingers get strong enough
you could hammer the shit out those strings (not that anyone should do that.)

That would be me and and I believe it to be true under all conditions. A pick imparts more energy to the string because its a harder material than a fingertip. I once had specialty bass picks that emulated the tone of fingerstyle. they were made out of hard rubber and composite fiber. I ended up not using them for any songs and got rid of them after a week. The guy I gave them to (also a pick player) didn't really like them either.
