When I've told friends that I'm learning to play the bass guitar, some would ask me if I can play “Smoke on the Water”. They mistakenly assume that the bass mimics the easy sounding guitar riff. Anyone else have this experience? It's a bit annoying.
I got the same. My bass teacher taught it to me and I really do not enjoy playing it. To me it was over rated and cliche. I still like hearing it, I just do not like playing it.
It was one of the first songs I ever learned on guitar (big surprise) but oddly enough it's never occurred to me to try it on bass. I'll have to give it another listen.
