I kind of like Ordinary World by Duran Duran. Not for the bass I sometimes like sappy feel good songs. As I got better on the bass I also found that some bands that I really didn't like turned out to have some really good bass players. I think John Taylor is under rated. When you start playing music you gain a appreciation for what some of these guys are doing or have done in the past. Before the bass. I used to just listen to music. Now I just hear mostly bass. I will be in my car for instance and hear a song on the radio I have heard a gazillion times but all of a sudden the bass is there and I realize damn that sounds good. Never heard that before. So yes I like John Taylor. I don't want to rate him but I like some of there tunes. This is only my humble opinion.

Also Swifty a lot of guys that comment on this site only like punk rock or metal and probably wont comment on your like of Duran Duran. Don't let that bother you. Keep up posting things you like. Each to there own. One mans trash is another mans treasure. I was blind but now I see. Stupid shit like that. Bottom line in my opinion again. Listen to whatever the hell you like and play whatever the hell you like. Diversify. It will only make you a better bass player. Don't worry so much about ratings. Play what feels good to you !

Search the Forum on “Duran Duran” and note the thread with 1643 replies - it's pretty accepted here that John Taylor is a quality bassist, even by those who aren't into Duran Duran musically. There was an effort there to tab ALL of John Taylor's bass lines.

“Friends of Mine” from the back side of their first album is why I play bass. And the cute girl who was all goo-goo over JT back in middle school.

He's consistently voted among the top bass players of all time. So regardless of the genre of music, the guy knows how to thump a few cables around.

Duran Duran are not my cup of tea & John Taylor is not in the same league as John Entwistle from The Who (just my opinion) but he is a damn fine bass player for what he does. He has created some pretty nifty basslines in his time, so he gets a thumbs up from me!
good bass player for a band i don't really like. what he does he does well.
I like him a lot, really good bass player!

He has some damn good bass lines, I think he's really good.
Since I don't listen to the shit that most of the ppl here do, I can tell you that I very much admire his work on bass (Save a Prayer is a great song largely due to the bass, and listen to the isolated bass on Girls on Film some time!), and of course the songs which are some of the best and most memorable of the 1980s. Most of the airheads that dis Duran Duran are jealous of the fact that the band and its songs were and remain far more popular that the crap they listen to. The rest of them really aren't competent enough to have a valid opinion about his bass playing/composition since they never listen to good music.
