try to sort of roll your fingers and use index and middle finger in a 1 2 1 2 fashion,also 
try to keep tour fingers on the fret after you played it

keep moving up the fret board,once you finish a scale down move up a fret and 
do the same scale backwards.ocne you arrive at the top,move up a fret and 
do the scale forwards angain.remember to rotate between your 2 picking 
fingers.do this for 5 mins every time you pick up the bass and you will develop 
good speed and a good technique and tone
