Ya know when you want to play a song that uses high notes such as For Whom The Bell Tolls yet you can't fret it because the fucking body is in the way? Well I'm used to playing that song on my old Jaguar bass and it's a bitch on the Thunderbird. Anyone want to tell me how I'm supposed to hit these notes without jamming my hand into the body? Ah the downsides to the bass I love

I have no problem hitting the 19th fret on my Thunderbird. If you lift the neck up towards your head, not only does it look cool but it's easier to get your hand on the higher frets

The Thunderbirds odd styling is totally impractical, terrible strap balance and poor high fret access. With my Stingray I can reach the 21st fret with ease, very handy for Chili Peppers tunes and the strap button is level with the 12th fret for great balance

Yeahh if I had the money I'd maybe get a Stingray for an alternate tuning but I know this is a huge shock probably but I haven't noticed any trouble with strap balance however yes the high fret access is unbearable

You don't have to get a Stingray, there are loads of practical designs out there. I honestly don't know what Gibson were thinking in 1958, i suppose because they were traditionalists and needed to get onto the radical band wagon that they lost the plot

For me the Thunderbirds impractical styling is what makes it strangely so practical
I have a very long goatee beard just above the navel in length
with a normal styled bass guitar with the strap located on the upper horn my beard would get tangled up but not so with the thunderbird
with its reverse design and strap button being located on the rear of the body no such problems are encountered
but going back to the top post nah i cant get to the lower frets either on D an G,the lowest i have to go would be the 15th fret on the E string for Sabbaths Hand Of Doom but thats well within reach.
