53 year old newbie looking for advice...

Hey guys,
I'm a 53 yr. old newbie who just picked up the bass. I'm a garage band drummer and a music freak. My son (guitar player) is helping me out with lessons on youtube and I'm slowly picking up some things. I have no illusions about being great, but I'd just like to be able to lay down some blues riff in casual jam sessions.
Any advice to give an old dog learning new tricks?

Hi Glenn, I'm gonna get shot down for talking scales again but when it comes to the Blues scales are essential, especially pentatonics, once you've got the scales down you can come up with some simple riffs and use progressions for the chord changes.

You won't get shot down from me. If you're looking to play blues, you'll need to know how to play walking bass lines– and you can't play walking bass lines if you don't know scales and chord progressions.
Thank you gentlemen. Any lesson suggestions?

If you're just starting out, the major and minor pentatonic scales are musts. Just do a search in the bar at the top of the page, we've got tons of lessons here.
Thanks again
