METALLICA. WHISKEY IN THE JAR. WHAT THE HELL?

Just had the gross misfortune to hear this diabolical version of a classic tune and now it's in my head and I can't get it out, after John Frusciantes ‘Song to the Siren’ it's the worst cover EVER, it like Arnold Schwarzenegger trying to cover an Edith Piaf song! If anybody knows of a worse cover I'd love to hear it. Instead of giving Captain Farrell both barrels James Hetfield should have just sang at him!! AWFUL

LOL

I love Metallica's cover, but that's just me. As for worse covers, I really don't get all the love for Disturbed's cover of Sound of Silence. I like a lot of their stuff, but that cover is plain crap, IMO. Kid Rock murdered Bad Company's “Feel Like Making Love.” Mariah Carey butchered Def Leppard's “Bringin' on the Heartbreak.” And while I can think of a dozen other awful covers, none are as grossly violating as Miley Cyrus brutal and unflinching fist-rape of Nirvana's “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” That over-hyped, under-talented piece of twerking, tongue-hanging douche-juice should have her lungs removed for that one.

I'll tell you why ‘Whiskey’ is so bad, Whiskey in the Jar is an old Irish folk song, it's a Lament, and when Phil Lynott sings it you can feel his pain for his mis fortune, you can hear it in his voice, Hetfield on the other hand sounds like the voice over dude for a ‘five teenagers go into the haunted crematorium slasher flick’ or a WWE commentator on steroids with painful piles, absolutely no feeling for the subject matter. I'm with Lon on Miley Cyrus though, just as long as her dad also gets what's coming to her.

All Saints ‘Under the Bridge’ also misses the point!

Not sure who winds me up more Billy Bragg or John Cooper Clarke with the political/social class poetry bollox

Least Bragg has something decent to cover

This is in our set

Cheers Bragster

Lol, are you just now hearing this song Marko, cause if so where have you been the past nineteen years? Its by no means obscure and I would say one of their more popular songs, at least where I live. I dont known anyone who doesn't like it or at the very least doesn't know of it even if their not fans. I agree with MotorMog that the Tuesdays Gone cover isnt great, but then again I didn't like the original anyway.

It's a toss up between the irritating monotone Manc or the cheeky Cockney geezer…
