Thomastik-Infeld Flatwound Strings
Anyone have any experience with these Strings?
Just wondering what you think of them…
I don't like flatwounds full stop, (that's period to our transatlantic cousins), they sound like you're playing with cotton wool in your ears!
Hmmm. Not sure what type of flatwounds you have played, Marko. These are easily the best strings I have ever used. I picked up a set yesterday after the sales guy demonstrated them for me.
I use a Eastwood semi hollow body and while I love the bass I have been longing for a more warm full bodied sound. With these strings I have that now and much more. One of the things the sales rep said to me was that I will hear how my bass really sounds with these strings. He was right - it feels and sounds totally different - and for the better.
The strings are nickel alloy flat wound silk wrapped steel core and are low tension so they play like a dream. They feel amazing as weell and make playing effortless. I really can't believe that strings could make such a difference. I was seriously considering buying a P Bass because I didn't think I would ever get a warm blues/reggae sound from my Eastwood. I was totally wrong! If my Eastwood was a Corvette it is now a Porsche. Easily the best $100cdn I have ever spent. I went with the .043, .056, .070, .0106 gauge and really could not be happier.
Howay man, divvent sit on the fence, what do you think aboot them?
….im not crazy about Porches either, or German cars in general, I drive an Alfa Romeo

Alright, I deserve that, but I am over the moon about these things. I played from aboot 9am this morning until aboot 3pm this afternoon… and loved every minute of it.
$100 is a bit too saucey for me, I pay ten quid for a set of Fenders

Sounds like a downgrade then to me! Especially if you were going from a '67 convertible with the 427 in it to a 924.
I've never played flat-wounds prior to having my fretless.
As a trial test, I didn't want to pay a lot for a set of strings for my 5 string fretless, so I bought a set of D'Addario XL Chromes Flatwound. I like them. They feel really nice and don't sound too muddy that flatwounds have the reputation for. I can still get good mids out of them, and the lows are really low.

You can keep your Chevvies and Porkers, the 2016 Alfa Romeo Giulia Cloverleaf has just broke the record for a saloon car round the Nurbergring
i actually clicked play on that image and wondered why it didn't work.
