As the title says, I think I'm going to start hanging around in this forum.

I can start introducing myself, My name is Kevin and I've been playing bass for around 3 years now.
My current bass is a Squier Vintage P-bass and my amp is a Fender Rumble 30w.

I'm thinking of trying out new cheaper strings. I usually play with a pick as it is now, any suggestions?

A little offtopic; Also thinking about buying a nice electric guitar, any suggestions?

EDIT: Sorry, I just saw the introduction thread, I'm not doing anything illegal, am I?

Hey Kevin, what's up?

Of course you're not doing anything illegal. We put the introduction thread there because… well, what's a new forum without an introduction thread, really?

We're hoping to eventually re-unite the bassmasta community here, but that might take a while. New members seem to be registering all the time, but they're all awfully quiet. So starting a new thread is never a problem here, we love seeing any activity.

Welcome.

Hey man, welcome! It's all good, post all the introduction threads you want!

For the strings it depends on what kind of sound you want to get out of them. The most common types of strings are roundwound, flatwound and groundwound. You probably have roundwound strings now (they have little ridges that go around the string), they're a good type of string suited for a lot of purposes.

If you want to hear more of the metallic clang type sound when you pick the strings, get stainless steel strings, otherwise get nickel strings.

I think it's best to just decide on the type of string you want and the material and then go to a shop and pick up something that's reasonably priced.

Hey there.. For the electric guitar I would suggest the mexican made Fender Stratocaster. It's not too expensive and the quality is pretty good.

you should check out some reviews

Thanks for the welcoming, I've been out of town so I couldn't check the forum.
I checked some reviews of the Mexican made Fender Stratocaster, the only thing is that I don't like the stratocaster model, any other suggestions?

Hey Kevin! Ive been playing bass for 3 years now too! I use Rotosound Jazz 77 Flatwounds that costed me about 30$. But that may or my not be in the price range you want. I recently bought those strings about 3 weeks ago now. But whatever has that sound you want, thats what you should get. Later! -Erik

Hey just came across this site by accident. Name is Steve and I just picked up the Bass at Christmas. My brother let me borrow his Fender P-J until I buy my own. Need an amp looking at these and could use some feedback……….
