Thumb Placement and Pickup Safety
When I play, since i finger pick, I place my thumb on the pickup for support. I've got a lower quality bass (Dean Edge 09) and the pickup feels a little loose. Do I need to break this habit or is it okay to keep doing this?
A pick up should never be that loose to the point it moves. Grab yourself a small phillips screw driver and tighten it down. While you are at it, check your electronics. Inexpensive bass's are known to have saw dust and wood chunks left over from the factory. Pull off your volume / pick up knobs, unscrew the cover and clean out as necessary.
