Hey there… Even though I'm a True Metal Head, I find myself dabbing into other areas of bass playing…I was listening to Willies Road House on XM…and discovered some great songs…I just made a tab request for Gary Stewart's “Your Place or Mine”…great honky tonk/bluesy bass line…and his vocals are like Jerry Lee Lewis. Any fans of Outlaw country?
I was just experiencing different style of playing.
Not tried c&w as it doesn't appeal to me but oddly I like playing Abba songs when my niche is rock music, glam, punk and heavy, also like listening and trying to play Glen Miller stuff from the 30's etc. I suppose we all dabble in other types of music. Look at Bowies various styles from the 1960's to the present
Actually the cheeky cockney shenanigans of Chas and Dave don't even translate up the A1. I'm right into funk at the moment, I've always loved the work of Bernard Edwards of Chic, I thought the bassline in Le Freak was harder than it actually is but it took me five minutes to learn
I enjoy the “walking bass lines”…normally I use a pick, but playing C & W, its cool using the fingers. Hank Williams Jr "Family Tradition, is another good one.
