Song: Is Anybody Home?
Artist: Our Lady Peace
Album: Happiness... Is Not a Fish That You Can Catch
Tabbed by: (the exhausted) L.A.
This took me a while to tab. It has a complicated bassline, not a bunch of repeating
riffs. So I've added lyrical notations so's you can follow along. As the notes play
faster than he sings, the beginning (i.e. first letter) of the lyric is written over
or under the note that comes at the same time, but the rest of the lyric is off.
Therefore, I've put these notations on top and below to help you figure it out. It's
all in the order the song flows in, w/ all variations and such things. Listen to the
song to get exactly what I mean. Enjoy!
Notation:
= hold note
q quarter —| I'm using these sparingly, so you'll know the basic speed of the
e eighth—|— song. wherever there's a grouping like 44444444 they're sixteenth
s sixteenth —| notes and the ones around them usually. Listen to the song for
clarification. (oh yeah, and h—half note)

Surprisingly enough, that whole long outro is only about :35 seconds.
A bunch of sixteenth notes can take up alot of room. Anyhoo, questions,
comments, playful banter, and if you find something terribly wrong with
this tab, email me:
[email protected] (it's play on words) or my old address
[email protected]. Makes more sense for me to revamp this if someone finds
errors with it (as I have it saved) than if you go and copy the whole thing
to make some changes.

Bass tablature (tabs) is an easy way to learn songs without needing to read traditional sheet music. Here’s a quick guide to understanding the symbols and techniques commonly found in tabs:
Each line in a tab represents a string on your bass:
Numbers on the lines indicate which fret to press. For example:
G|-------------------|
D|-------------------|
A|---3---------------|
E|-------------------|
This means you play the 3rd fret on the A string.
Play the first note by picking it, then press down on a higher fret with another finger without picking again.
G|-------------------|
D|-------5h7---------|
Pluck a note and then "pull off" your finger to let a lower fret ring.
G|-------------------|
D|-------7p5---------|
Move your finger up (/) or down (\) the fretboard while maintaining pressure.
G|-------------------|
D|-------5/7---------|
G|-------7b9---------|
G|-------7~----------|
Tabs don’t always indicate timing, so listen to the song while reading the tab. Wider spaces between numbers mean longer pauses, while closer numbers indicate quicker notes.
Tabs are a great tool to learn songs, but mastering the techniques takes practice. Listen carefully to the original track and play along to lock in the rhythm. Don’t rush — smooth, accurate playing is more important than speed. Happy jamming! 🎸
