Personally I hate them, weak as piss
They're rather noisy pickups too, You're better off getting one wired right. I had one in a PJ bass I bought and I had to change both pickups out because of the feedback. You'd be better off investing in an EMG Jazz pickup, A D'marzio J Pickup, or even seeing if you can find a fender jazz pickup to put in there.
They should only be weak sounding if wired wrong….the neck pickup should be wired in reverse (as standard) to achieve a humbucking pickup. Both volume controls should be set to the same levels to make 100% noise free.If set up right a guitar with Jazz style pickups should be able to cope with most styles of music, hence why session musicians bassists have used them for many years.Try active EMG,s for Jazz if noise and tone are an issue

You can't get a humbucking pick up from a single coil, a Humbucker has two magnets mounted with opposing polarity
