Looking for good $300 bass, any ideas, I'm currently using a squire affinity p-bass, not great but it was dirt cheap and a good starter. Just looking to upgrade. Again this is not my picture, sorry can't seem to get to change.

I'd guess you're talking used basses, so ebay or craiglist perhaps?

Shops will often have trade-ins or floor/demo models, and once in awhile something nice shows up in a pawn shop.

My absolute favorite bass ever is a 1977 Ibanez Silver Series. (It is a knock off of the Fender Jazz bass.) I bought it used from a guy in college. I like Fender basses too, especially the jazz bass.
I got my Ibanez Soundgear Gio for 150, although they cost retail around 2 or 250. It's a pretty good mid-quality bass. Nothing super sexy about it. Very average, but a great quality bass nonetheless.
A really good bass is a Squier Vintage Modified Jazz, it's around $300-$500, and is still kind of a starter, but you can modify it to be a good upgrade.

Yeah, what angryspacegoat said. I've heard great things about the Fender Squire Vintage Modified Jazz, and a four string should be under $300 new. I haven't played one, but they (VM Jazz) consistently get good comments on bass forums.

I get what you mean, just trying to raise your self awareness.
How goes it dude,
Recently i purchaced a second hand Vintage brand V4 advance series Jazz bass clone.
I will stand by the statement that it is every bit as good, if not better tonally than my 70's fender jazz. Theyre cheap as dirt, totally giggable and the new V96 reissue series Stingray copy is so fine, i'm gonna buy one of those in the next few weeks.

Well I've got a OLP bass now, sounds great but needs a new pot and better pick-up, planning on a soon replacement, but also looking at a Ibanez SR300 found for 175. may get it tomorrow.
