I have run into one or two tabs that sound correct, but I have to play a fret up or down for it to sound right to my ear. Is this normal? I have checked tuning. Could it be set up, strings, amp, distortion if any used, speakers, or all of the above. I'm guessing this is somewhat normal since we change key to match singing etc. Anyway.

Tabs can be wrong. Just play whatever sounds good to you

My guess is that the tab is a half step sharp or half step flat - the tab is off half a tone. You have to remember that most tabbers are deformed products of inbreeding, such as myself.

Does the tab say it's in standard tuning or Drop D for instance

Even if the tab is right i usually end up playing a modified version

Yeah like I said in another thread, I learn riffs and then I just fill in random things as I go along.

the worst is when there's a recording that's in between standard and a half step down. i've noticed that this is the case henrdrix and zepplin tunes sometimes (amoi
ung others)
